Steam will formally introduce in Asia week that is next

Steam‘s localised, government-approved version for the Chinese market, is launch that is finally nearing. The version that is china-only off its open beta on February 9 with the help of Dota 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

The Chinese version of Steam is operated by publisher Perfect World, and it’s the total consequence of many years of work and a partnership that started 3 years ago. As noted by Niko Partners analyst Daniel Ahmad, existing progress in the two games will transfer over to the version that is localised. The intention is for all purchases and account history to seamlessly make the transition.

That despite this version having its own client, separate from the international version of Steam said, not every game being sold on the version that is worldwide of are obtainable in Asia. Certainly, your whole point of the endeavour is for Valve to get a foothold into the market that is chinese but that also means that the available games will first need to be approved by Chinese regulators.

As Ahmad points out, it’s not clear whether the version that is international of will stay available as soon as Steam Asia formally goes real time.
