Genshin Impact: Dust of Azoth and Parametric Transformer guide

A couple of new features have been added in Genshin Impact as part of the version 1.3 “All That Glitters” update. The alchemy bench can transmute gemstones using Dust of Azoth. Meanwhile, the Parametric Transformer gadget allows you to obtain completely different items at the cost of other stuff in your inventory. Here’s our guide to help you out.

Genshin Impact‘s new Transmutations – Dust of Azoth and Parametric Transformer guide

Alchemy conversion and Dust of Azoth

Firstly, let’s talk about the alchemy bench’s transmutation feature. In the past, players could only upgrade ascension materials into higher tiers. Now, with Genshin Impact‘s 1.3 update, the alchemy bench has a new tab that lets you transmute gemstones into other types.

When you open this tab, you’ll see all the gemstones that can be created as well as the required materials. For instance, if you want a 5-star turquoise gemstone (i.e., for Xiao’s ascension), you’ll need to use a different 5-star gem such as an amethyst or lazurite. Just click on the paper icon to pick the material you want. Furthermore, you’ll also need Dust of Azoth.

Dust of Azoth comes from Paimon’s Shop, specifically the Stardust Exchange tab. Remember the gacha microtransactions/wishes and the Stardust you obtain if you get duplicates? Well, the resource is can be spent to grab Dust of Azoth as well.

The exchange rate is 5x Stardust for 10x Dust of Azoth, and you’re limited to 100 transactions each month. It’s easy enough to acquire, but you do need to make a few wishes. It might not be that viable for low spenders or F2P players. Likewise, bear in mind that the gem tiers/rarity conversion requires different amounts of Dust of Azoth too:

  • Common/green – 1x Dust of Azoth
  • Rare/blue – 3x Dust of Azoth
  • Epic/purple – 9x Dust of Azoth
  • Legendary/orange – 27x Dust of Azoth

Parametric Transformer gadget

As for the Parametric Transformer gadget, you can get this via the “Tianqiu Treasure Trail” sidequest. Lan, an NPC next to Liyue Harbor’s Adventurer’s Guild, gives you this sidequest.

Note: Lan has a couple of other sidequests that you might need to finish before you can unlock “Tianqiu Treasure Trail.”

Anyway, follow the marker, beat the mobs, and claim the treasure map.

At a glance, it looks like a spot in Dunyu Ruins at the western edge of Genshin Impact‘s world map:

Use the Statue of the Seven close to Lingju Pass and glide to the north. Here’s what it looks like while exploring the game world:

Anyway, investigate the area and three more spots will appear on your mini-map.

Continue investigating these, all while taking out Fatui and slime baddies, and opening the three chests you discover.

When you’re done, return to Lan and she’ll give you the Parametric Transformer.

To use this, simply open your inventory’s gadget tab and click “Place” to spawn it in an area. Make sure you’re not near mobs or it’ll disappear temporarily.

You can add various items such as ascension materials, food (apples and sunsettias), and other random stuff in Genshin Impact. The goal is to reach 150 total points, and each item provides points based on its rarity:

  • Common/green – 1 point
  • Rare/blue – 2 points
  • Epic/purple – 4 points

Note: After selecting an item, you can change the number of units that’ll be fed to the Parametric Transformer.

Once you have 150 points, click “Initiate Transformation” to finish your selection (just remember that you won’t get your items back).

Next, use your elemental skills until the Parametric Transformer reaches 100%.

This will successfully convert your old items into completely new ones. I do feel that it’s a little bit random as, in my case, I ended up with several talent books. I’m uncertain if specific items lead to district transmuted loot.

Anyway, the Parametric Transformer can only be used once each weekly reset. You’re done with this for now.
